Call To Discernment: A "Magical" song message breakdown

I received this song message a while back. I knew it from childhood but hadn't really paid much attention to the lyrics. But there is something profound I feel led to share...

In 1980 there was a paradigm shift in the world of popular music. It was the decade that brought us all our favorite idols, that we casually called 'stars'. Yes, we were glued to our tele-vision to see and hear what looks and sounds these 'beautiful' and 'special' people had for us.

On the forefront of this era came a beautiful Australian woman's voice that even if we tried to ignore it, we just couldn't. Yes, the same voice that graced us on our American 'Grease' that we just couldn't get enough of in the late 70's.

In 1980 this song called Magic fairy dusted the airwaves with it's beautifully haunting whimsical trance:
"You have to believe we are Magic. Nothing can stand in our way. You have to believe we are Magic. Don't let your aim ever stray. And if all your hopes survive, destiny will arrive. I'll bring all your dreams alive, for you. I'll bring all you're dreams alive, for you."

Wow! Did you hear that?! Well, if you don't know the song, I encourage you to hear it as you read. If you're really brave watch the video. And if you know it, you know it. It sounds beautiful doesn't it? Doesn't it?!

When The Lord asked me to look up the lyrics as I listened I couldn't believe the "magic"!!!
As a kid I remember thinking this song was a good song about love or maybe God. And when you hear it in it's entirety- at first sound, it does appear that way. It's magical!!!

But something is amiss. Can you see what it is? If you're Holy Spirit-filled, you can.
Yes, some of you may be wondering what the big deal is? It's a positive song about "believing" and "dreams" and "magic" and "destiny". What on earth can be wrong with it?!

I'm here to call out the deception. This song is a perfect example of what "an angel of light" looks and sounds like.

I don't necessarily mean the singer, I do not know her spiritual standing nor claim to. But the "voice" behind the song- is beautiful and captivating. And the lyrics too are alluring. Together they are a very powerful force. And if you're not careful, you can be seduced by deceiving spirits.

I believe the Lord is using this song to demonstrate how easy it is to be deceived by what we see and hear. Especially if it appears to be "good" and "pure".

So why is this song so wrong? And what is so wrong with many seemingly happy, upbeat, and positive songs? More than meets the eye or ear!

As I said earlier, this song appears to be about a greater force, likely 'God'. But it's not the One True God.

Our God does not use "magic"(Micah 5:12). And our God does not tempt mankind with the roads to "Destiny" (Isaiah 65:11). So while this song appears and sounds to be talking from "God's" perspective. I assure you it is another god: the god of this world.

If you're still not convinced. God's promises are certain and true (Psalm 18:30) and hope is assured for the believer (Romans 5:5). This song tell you that those things may or may not happen.

Furthermore,  Read Matthew4:1-11.

Here we see Satan's attempt to tempt Jesus with many things, including the wealth and riches of this world. His method is still the same. He tempts with false hope, false promises, false caring, false love and false unity.

And He continues to....

But we don't have to be deceived. How can we know that we aren't being deceived? Test the spirits (1 John 4:1). All of them. Wherever they come from. And remember the devil and all his demons use scripture to trip up the saints. So you must know the Bible- all of it!

Examine your life and see where there are areas that the enemy has deceived you. Test the spirits. Ask God to show you and deliver you out of them.

May we all be sober-minded in these last days. It's not easy to know what is true. And it will only get harder the closer we get to His coming. But we are promised when we abide in Him He will lead us into All Truth!!!!
